From the recording Eons Away
The piano part came first, in a reggae jam in Colombia in 2015. As soon as I played it back, I thought it sounded like Wings (Paul McCartney), so I kept it in mind for later. When I moved to Melbourne, I noticed how addicted people here are to their mobile devices. Entire train carriages full of people with no sound, just people looking at their cell phones. Endlessly scrolling. It's such an epidemic in the city that there are propositions to begin putting signs and crossing lights in the ground so that people don't get run over. It's eery. This song is about them. Maybe, it's about you.
Lyrics
Staying home tonight
Going out on a satellite
You're Going out on a satellite
Every last one desire
Putting it out on a wire
You're putting it out on a wire
I see rain, I see stars
I see all these lonely, lonely people driving in their cars
Talking on their cellular to no one in particular
And I can't make no sense of it at all
Oh, I see rain, I see the street
I see all these lonely, lonely people staring at their feet
Clutching at their cellular for nothing in particular
And I can't make no sense of it at all
Little screen so bright
Face lit up in a silverlight
Face lit up in a silverlight
All of your hopes and dreams
Living on in a laser beam
Living on in a laser beam
I see rain, I see stars
I see all these lonely, lonely people driving in their cars
Talking on their cellular 'bout nothin' in particular
And I can't make no sense of it at all
I see trains and passengers
I see all these lonely, lonely people scrolling through their messages
Staring at their cellulars at nothing in particular
